Scheduling and Dispatching Vehicles

The core function of Manager is making and scheduling vehicle dispatch. You can also set vehicles in and out of service, repair, or charter. Future assignment changes can be queued up as well. This document will show you how to navigate the dispatch interface and make these changes.

THE DISPATCH INTERFACE

To begin, click the Vehicles button on the navigation bar within Manager. From here, you’ll be directed to the Current tab, showing all vehicles and their status. These are the seven columns in the vehicle table:

  • Call Name - the public name of the vehicle
  • Description - an optional description of the vehicle
  • Status - this drop-down menu collects all currently available route and block options. By selecting one of these, you can change the assignment of a vehicle. Out of Service, In Repair, and Charter statuses make the vehicle invisible to the public
  • Log - a link to the history of status changes for the vehicle
  • AVL Status - Automatic Vehicle Locator status, which is controlled by the TransLoc hardware team. This status changes from Up to Down if we’ve identified an issue with the GPS unit. Down AVL will remove vehicles from the map and show a warning.
  • Actions - the On Map button will open a pop-up window showing the latest vehicle location on a map.
  • Next Change - any future status changes scheduled for the vehicle.

The Save Changes button will submit any status changes you've selected. Clicking Mark All Out of Service will remove all vehicles from active assignments and make them invisible to the public.

VEHICLE SCHEDULES

Selecting the Schedules tab will show any upcoming changes to vehicles, if they exist. There are four columns for this table:

  • Scheduled Change - the timestamp (in local time) of the planned assignment change
  • Call Name - the public name of the vehicle affected
  • Status - the route, block, or status change that will take effect
  • User - the name of the Manager account that scheduled the change. This also shows the time and date the change was submitted.

You can use the First, Previous, Next, and Last buttons to navigate through pages of scheduled changes. Pressing Create New Schedule will launch the scheduler interface.

SCHEDULING A CHANGE

Clicking the Create New Schedule button will open the scheduler interface. From here, you can set future schedule changes to vehicles. There are four fields to complete:

  • Vehicle - the call name of the vehicle to change
  • Date - the date the change will take effect
  • Status -  the route, block, or status change that will take effect. Note that blocks are only available on the days available in their calendar.
  • Time - the time the change will take effect, if the vehicle isn’t being assigned to a block.

Pressing Submit will schedule the change if all fields are valid.

VEHICLE LOGS

Selecting the Logs tab will show a record of assignment changes for all vehicles. Clicking the Log link for a single vehicle shows a similar history for that vehicle. There are four columns for this table:

  • Date and Time - the timestamp (in local time) of the change that was made
  • Call Name - the public name of the vehicle affected
  • Status - the route, block, or status change that was made
  • User - the name of the Manager account that made the change

Automatic changes made by block assignments and changes made by TransLoc employees will not show up in this log. Vehicle logs are stored indefinitely.
